Owls Private Pre-K

Owl (4 to 5) are very inquisitive

Our Private Pre-Kindergarten class is built to captivate young inquisitive minds and hearts. In an effort to prepare the children for Kindergarten and build them to be future leaders, we have developed our full day program to mirror their daily schedule including morning and afternoon learning and a short rest period to better prepare them for the transition from Pre-K to kindergarten.

  • Being ready for kindergarten means more than having certain academic skills (e.g. .counting, numbers, ABCs, letter printing). When starting Kindergarten it is equally important to help your child to:
  •  Develop independence in daily living skills (getting dressed, using the bathroom, zipping, buttoning, washing hands, opening juice boxes, snacks, containers)
  •  Interact cooperatively with other children and respond appropriately to adults (follow directions, take turns, express feelings, listen attentively, and solve disagreements using their words and self-control)
  •  Communicate their own needs; speak clearly about experiences; enjoy favorite books, songs, rhymes and games.

In addition, to building our students to be leaders and captivate young inquisitive minds; our Private Pre- Kindergarten curriculum is built around Language and literacy development and Phonological Awareness. During the preschool years Language and literacy has a significant impact on how well children learn to read and write during kindergarten and the primary grades. Successful early literacy learning is closely associated with achievement in later schooling, social relations, and work.

Teachers can use many appropriate activities to help build phonological awareness in young preschoolers and phonemic awareness in older children. Rhyming songs, syllable-clapping, and grouping objects according to how their names begin can all be used to draw children’s attention to the sounds of speech. Later, to promote phonemic awareness, the activities can include but not limited to:

  • Isolating the first segment of a word (Let’s make the first sound we hear in the word snake.
  • Finding all the objects on a poster that begin with the “nan” sound
  • Breaking one-syllable words into their phonemes
